Mosaic art is the antithesis of a "paint by numbers" approach. Mosaics are made up of broken pieces that become more beautiful together than they ever were separately. You can't force the pieces into uniformity without destroying what makes it art. Each fragment is essential; the flaws create depth and visual interest.
Much like mosaics, ADHD brains don't work in straight lines or linear approaches. We're big picture thinkers. Intensely creative. We feel deeply. We see patterns others miss and make connections that seem to come out of nowhere.
And while we may need seventeen alarms to leave the house on time (while still forgetting the keys), by the time we do arrive — we’re often the ones who can solve the problem everyone else said was impossible.
That's not to say ADHD isn’t incredibly challenging or a real disability. But, the world treats neurotypical skills - showing up on time, doing things 'the right way' - like they are moral feats that make someone inherently good. Or, that they're the things that matter most.
I've never agreed -- and, every ADHD client I've ever worked with has been living proof of that.
The most interesting, vibrant people I've ever met were neurodivergent (I might be biased).
That's the core ethos behind Mosaic Minds: questioning everything we've been taught about who becomes 'successful' or who is 'worthy.' It's about understanding your brain, what makes you you, capitalizing on your real strengths, and realizing you don't need to become someone else to find what you're looking for (and yes-- don't worry you can learn to be on time,.
Mosaic Minds is a space where all backgrounds, identities, and non-traditional life paths are welcome. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, inclusive of all gender identities and relationship structures, and welcome current and former sex workers.
A mosaic artist doesn't start with perfect pieces.
They work with fragments, with edges that don't quite fit, with pieces that seem out of place.
The beauty isn't in spite of these differences, it's because of them.
I became a coach by accident
In May 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I was an incredibly burnt-out law school graduate studying for the bar.
As any good ADHD-er dying of boredom might, I signed up for the first shiny thing that caught my eye -- a coaching certification. I told myself it was a productive distraction--maybe it would help me be a good supervisor in 10 years!--but, mostly - it was a great way to avoid studying.
My impulsivity that day worked in my favor. Some might say it was intuition. From that very first coaching class, I was hooked. Along the way, I’ve found a deep passion for working with people navigating ADHD who have a complex trauma past—especially those who’ve been told they’re ‘too difficult,’ aren't ready or consistent enough, or have "failed out" (or ghosted?) other coaching programs.
In my downtime, I’m usually enjoying NYC’s endless dopamine-paradise with my rescue pups or learning something new! Most recently, that’s been skiing (humbling) and an advanced wine certification (less so). The passions that inspired me to go to law school, criminal legal system reform and restorative justice, remains some of the causes closest to my heart. I spend my volunteer hours representing immigrant juvenile youth at the Safe Passage Project and helping NY'ers prepare for their parole hearings.
